History of the Sauval Armagnac
The Marquis Jean Sauval was born in the Bas-Armagnac in the 17th century. As the younger son of the noble family he became a Musketeer (royal guard of the French King, Louis XIII). Upon returning to his castle he gave his name to his favorite drink: the Sauval Armagnac.
Our newly distilled Armagnacs are dispatched to Cognac and aged in oak casks of 400 liters. The ageing and blending process on the Sauval Armagnac is the same as for the Cognac. To better suit our taste and style, half of the eaux-de-vie are distilled in the “charentaise” way (double distillation) which gives the delicacy to this Armagnac. The other half is distilled in the traditional way (only one distillation) in order to give structure and typical terroir flavors.
Tasting Notes
This Armagnac is a blend of spirits of 12 years to 25 years old. The largest part of the blend is coming from the Bas-Armagnac area where all the best aged Armagnacs are produced.
Taste Sauval after a meal and enjoy it after taking time to appreciate the mellowness and distinction of this XO.
Sauval XO is characterized by smoothness, delicacy and fruitiness.
